THE FACES OF WAR

Giorgi, 23, Tbilisi
Wounded in combat on August 8th in Tskinvali
His upper arm has been completely shattered by a bomb blast


Olessya, 23, Gori
Olessya was on holiday by the black sea when she saw her family home buring on Television. It was hit by a Russian bomb at 10 am on August 8th.
She returned home as soon as Russian forces left Gori to search for belongings in the charred remnants of her apartment.


Lado, 5, Gori
After fleeing the city with his mother on August 9th, Lado has just returned back to Gori. Russian forces have left and he is waiting for humanitarian aid that will be delivered to the local chess club. The toy gun is a gift by his mother.



Dato, 29, Officer, Tbilisi
Dato was wounded on the first day of fighting in Tskinvali. His lower arm has been completely shattered by an anti-tank missile. He also received severe burns to large parts of his body. He does not want his face to be photographed.

Roland, 22, Tbilisi
Married two months ago, he was called to duty on August 7th. After being cut off from his troupe he remained in hiding in South Ossetia for four days before being captured and taken hostage by Russian forces. Prior to his hand over to Russians he was severely beaten by Ossetian civilians and militia.



Zurab and Madonna, (39 and 35), Gori
Both were outside of the house when a Russian bomb struck on August 8th and escaped unharmed. They just returned from Surami refugee camp to collect what is left of their belongings. They will return to the camp again and hope that their house will be renovated soon so that they can return home.

Shotta, 32, Gori
He was vacationing by the black sea when he was called to duty.


Marina and Lasha (42 and 8), Gori
Both Marina's and her daughter's house were bombed during Russian attacks on the city. They have no where to go and don't know what to do. Her son Lasha is helping her to save what they can from their apartment, even though they do not know where they will put their belongings.


Dato, Tbilisi
Wounded in Tskinvali
Dato just awoke from being in a coma and can not speak.
