The day before the shoot, we had a very amusing evening of trying to decipher how to operate the thing, which was in fact nothing like the 4x5 we used at Olly's. Instead it was a beautiful wooden box, with about 15 different levers and buttons. I am very curious to see how the photos will turn out. I noticed during the shoot, that if you loosen the buttons next to the lens, you can move it up and down and from side to side, which has the effect of shifting the focus onto different planes. Very strange. In one picture i could only get the face focused and nothing else!
These pictures are test shots with by new digital friend; the glorious 5D! What a beast.
The lady's name is Sylvia. She growns 16th century herbs and flowers in her allottment and is an expert on Tudor games and dances. She works at the Globe Theatre. I thought it would be fun to photograph her in her beautiful costume.
It is nice to see how lovingly she cares for and inspects all the plants in her plot - making sure that they are healthy. The little still-life is one of my new favorite flowers, which i discovered thanks to Sylvie. It is a 16th century plants called "Love in the Mist". And the flowers really do look like they are standing in mist when you have a lot of them together.
